What is diabetes ?
The disease in which the body does not produce or properly use insulin hormone that is needed to convert sugar, starches and other food into energy needed for daily life .normal sugar level in blood should be 70-110 mg/dl increase the sugar count above 110 mg/dl is called diabetes .
Diabetes mellitus is characterized by an abnormally high level of blood glucose and by the excretion of the excess glucose in the urine.it results from an obsolute or relative lack of insulin which leads to the abnormalities in carbohydrate ,metabolism as well as in the metabolism of protein and fat .
The most commonly used screening test are the determination of the fasting blood glucose level and the blood glucose level tested two hours after a meal. The normal fasting blood shuger a level of contant is 80-120 mg per 100 ml of blood this can go up to 60mg per100ml of blood two hours after a meals . anything above as level can be termed as diabetic level .diabetes is common among older older ,obese people.

Genetic factors – if one of your parents is a diabetic, your chance of being one by the time you turn 40 are 40% .

- excessive intake of proteins and fats which are transformed into sugar if taken excess

Use the following fruits and vegetables sparingly and with caution:
1- Carrots(gajar), peas(matar), beans, sweet potato beetroot(chukandar) , potatoes, jackfruit(katahal), banana, grapes,cheeku, leechi, custard apple (sharifa), dry fruits, mango, raisins(kishmish).
2- Eat plenty of vegetables like lettuce (salad patta), tomato and fruits.
3- Foods rich and fibers should be preferred.
4- Daily intake of calories should be restricted.
5- Use proteins moderately for diabetic.
6- Milk and nuts intake to be restricted to be minimum whereas have plenty of curd and buttermilk.
7- Avoid all refined foods and sweets.
8- Drink 8-10 glasses of water daily.
9- Upon arising: a glass of lukewarm water with freshly squeezed lemon juice.
10- Breakfast: Any fresh fruit with the exception of bananas, soaked prunes, a small quantity of whole wheat bread with butter and fresh milk.
Lunch: steamed or lightly cooked green vegetables such as cauliflower, cabbage, tomatoes, spinach, turnip, asparagus and mushrooms, two or three whole wheat chappatis according to appetite and a glass of buttermilk or curd.
