What is Ankylosing Spondylitis?

Ankylosing spondylitis is a type of arthritis that affects the spine.It causes pain and stiffness in the back, and over time it can actually cause the bones in the spine to fuse together.It is a chronic condition .The joints where the spine meets the pelvis are most affected. The condition may also impact areas where tendons and ligaments attach to bones. It may cause inflammation in other areas of the body such as shoulders,ribs,hips,knees,feet,eyes,jaw,bowel.

1.Stretching is one of the most effective way to cure ankylosing spondylitis it builds flexibility and reduces pain also.Doing spine stretch or the low-back rotation stretch daily is also beneficial.

2.Apply a hot water bottle or heating pad to the affected area to reduce stiffness and pain.

3.Chew1-2 garlic cloves or 1 single pod garlic ,first thing in the morning.

4.Regularly massage affected area with neem oil.

5.Applying an ice pack for only 10 minute to painful joint ,it help in reducing swelling. Don’t use this remedy without consulting your doctor if you have circulation problem.

6.Make a paste of 2 tablespoons dried ginger powder with a little water.Heat it and apply it to  swellings of joint.

7.Yoga asanas such as Pawana muktasana, Bhujangasana, Dhanurasana, Paschimottanasana, Vakrasana are beneficial for this disease.

8.Grind dried ginger root, celery seeds and cumin seeds in equal quantities in powdered form Add rock salt to taste.Consume 1 tsp powder with lukewarm water twice in a day regularly.

9.Take light foods and ghee in your diet but avoid excess oily foods and curds.

10.Mix one-half teaspoon of cinnamon powder and one tablespoon of honey in a cup ofwarm water and drink it every morning on an empty stomach. Do this daily for several days.
