Headache afflict almost everyone of some time or the other most headaches are functional, being caused by temporary upsets and are not related to any organic changes in the brain. They are often nature’s warning that something is wrong somewhere in the body. A migraine occurs due to the sudden and inexplicable expansion and contraction of the arteries leading to one side of the head. Some food may set off an attack of migraine. These include aged and strong cheese, pods of broad beans, canned figs and alcohol. Large amounts of monosodium glutamate employed as a flavouring agent in foods may also precipitate an attack of migraine.
Causes of headache
The common cause of headache is allergy, emotional reasons, eyestrain, high blood pressure, hangover, infection, low blood sugar, nutritional deficiency, tension, the presence of poisons and toxins in the body and migraine. Allergies, an often unsuspected cause of headache, vary in different individuals. The foods to which some people are allergic and which can trigger headaches are milk and milk products, chocolates, chicken liver, alcohol and strong cheese. Sneezing and diarrhea are further indications of an allergy.
1.Eye strain is a common cause of headache. In such case an eye specialist should be consulted and proper treatment taken. “Simple eye exercises such as moving the eye up and down and from side to side, palming, rotating the head, with neck outstretched, forward and backward three times, then thrice clockwise and thrice anti-clockwise can relieve eye strain.”
2.High blood pressure can cause pounding headaches. The headache usually starts at the back of head on getting up at the morning. “A safe method of treatment for this is to immerse your legs to calf-leave in a tub of hot water for 15-20 minutes. HEADACHE DUE TO EXPOSURE TO COLD AIR
1.Mix 1 tsp finely ground cinnamon in 1 tsp water and apply on the affected parts.

HEADACHE ON ONE SIDE
1.Mix 1 tsp each of the following powders and store: camphor(kapoor), nutmeg(jaiphal), cardamom(choti ilaichi) and cloves(laung). Take 2 pinches with warm water.
2.Powder equal quantities of liquorice (mulathi) and cumin (jeera). Take ¼ tsp everyday along with 1 tsp honey for a month.
3.For half headache, grind together 1 onion and 3-4 peppercorns(kalimirch) in a little water, strain to get juice. Put a few drops juice in the nostril opposite to the side of headache.
4.Any kind of headache or even migraine can be relieved by ice packs. Place a few ice cubes in a polythene bag and apply this on the forehead and temples to ease the pain(avoid in winter).
5.In case of headache mix 1 tsp dry ginger(saunth) with 2 tbsp water to a paste. Apply on the forehead to provide quick relief.
6.Make a paste of 1” stick cinnamon(dalchini), 4-5 peppercorn( sabut kalimirch), 1/2 “ piece of ginger(adark) and 4 tsp of powdered dried ginger. Apply this thinly on the forehead. Rest and relax allowing it to dry. Then remove by washing it off.

1.BALM|Melissa officinalis |Rogani Balsan -Pour the 1 cup boiling water over the 2 tsp leaves, cover the container and let the mixture stand for 10 minutes. Strain and sweeten with sugar or honey and drink hot . 1 cup twice a day.
2. GINGER| Zingiber officinale| Adrak-Combine the crushed ginger 30 g and 2 cups water in a covered pan and let it stand for 25 minutes. Then strain the infusion and drink hot or warm.Consume 1-2 cups a day.
3.LAVENDER|Lavandula angustifolia|Dharu-Drop the 1 tsp crushed blossoms into the 1 cup boiling water, cover the vessel and allow the flowers to steep for 10-15 minutes then strain. The tea is ready to drink.Consume 1 cup, twice a day, morning and evening for 2-3 weeks
4.ROSEMARY|Rosmarinus officinalis linn| Rusmary-In a covered container, boil the 1 handful crushed rosemary leaves in 2 cups water for 15 minutes, remove from the fire, cool and strain.Consume 1 cup, twice a day.
5.THYME-LEAVED GRATIOLA|Herpestis moniera|Brhambhi
-Boil the ½ tsp crushed leaves in 2 cups water for 15 minutes in a covered container. Remove from the heat and allow the decoction to cool before straining it. Consume 1-2 tbsp, twice a day.
6.VIOLET|Viola odorata| Bunafshah-To 1 cup boiling water, add the crushed 2 tsp violet leaves and let the mixture stand, covered for 15 minutes. Then strain and drink as recommended.Consume1 cup a day.
7.CHAMOMILE+LAVENDER+VALERIAN|Anthemis nablis + lavandula angustifolia + vatenana Officinalis linn|
Babunah + dharu + jalakan-Take Crushed Chamomile flowers 1 tsp,crushed Lavender flowers ½ tsp, crushed valerian root ½ tsp,Boiling water 1 cup .Place the herb mixture in cup of boiling water, cover and steep for 8 .Consume1 cup, twice a day .
Caution- pregnant and nursing women and children below two years of age should not drink this tea.
8.LEMON BALM + LIME + ROSEMARY| Melissa officinalis+ citrus bergamia rise r poi+ Rosmarinus officinalis L.|
Aspurak + neembu + rusmary-Take crushed Lemon balm herb 1/3 tsp,crushed Lime flowers 1/3 tsp,crushed Rosemary herb 1/3 tsp,Boiling water 1 cup.Combine the three herbs and pour the boiling water over this mixture, cover and let the tea stand for 15 minutes, then strain.Consume 1-4 cups a day.
